The biggest unanswered question

Tonight a significant group returned to the Burbank City Council to reiterate our opinions on the Winter Homeless Shelter that operated out of the National Guard Armory this last season.
The most common question asked by at least 6-7 people was: Did the City of Burbank violate Jessica’s Law by allowing the shelter to operate at the armory? Jessica’s Law restricts the housing, loitering of sex-offenders within 2000 feet of parks, and schools. Many cities are placing further restrictions to better protect their citizens. Read More...

Dr. David Gordon - The right man for Burbank.

With the local election for Burbank City Council upon us, we at United Burbank would like to thank Dr. Gordon for his aid to our neighborhood in regards to the Winter Shelter at the Armory this last season.
When the use of the Armory came before the city for the second year, all the council members, including Dr Gordon, were generally in favor of the program. And why not! According to the city manager and other dept. heads it was a raving success with barely a hint of trouble, and overwhelming support by the community.
The only problem was that no one asked the people in the area what they thought.

Did Burbank break the law?

Some good news.

The Burbank Leader is reporting that the Burbank Armory will be unavailable for use as a winter shelter next year. While it doesn’t solve the issue of a shelter in Burbank and where to put it, it does give us a short term sigh of relief. We hope that Burbank will use this time to find a proper place to put a shelter and focus the help towards families and other temporary homeless who can use the help the most.
