Speak Out! City Council meeting this Tuesday at 6:00 pm
Now is the time to let our voices be heard. This Tuesday (11-25-2008) at 6:00 there is a Burbank City Council meeting. Please join your fellow burbank citizens in speaking out about the planed homeless shelter so close to our neighborhood. We’ll be presenting our letter to the Mayor with all of the signatures we’ve collected so far.
But signatures only count for so much. It is imperative that we fill the council chamber with as many people as possible and present a unified front in person to the members of the City Council. We encourage you to fill out a yellow card where you’ll be given up to five minutes to speak your mind on any issue concerning the City of Burbank. There is no need to be embarrassed or timid about addressing the City Council. (Heck, thats what they’re there for.) Don’t worry about speaking elegant, just speak from the heart about why you think a homeless shelter in the area is a bad idea.
The proximity of the shelter to Pacific Park. Its right next door!
The proximity to schools and daycare.
The lack of security we feel this will bring on the community.
The resulting decline in value of our homes.
More than 88% of the homeless served by the shelter are not from Burbank.
The liability to the city should something happen to a resident during the shelter’s operation.
The fact that Burbank is under no obligation to house the homeless at the armory.
The fact that notice was sent only three days before the vote and that very few people actually received the letter.
These are just a few off the top of my head. If you have any to add. email: admin@unitedburbank.com
