Makin' 'em sweat.

Our group returned to the City Council tonight to put more pressure on the members and Ms. Carrie Gatlin, the Union Rescue Mission’s (URM) representative in charge of the Winter Shelter. Some revelations that stand out most:

Vice Mayor Bric’s asked if clients coming into the shelter are asked if they’re a registered 290 (sex-offender). Ms Gatlin’s answer: “They’re not asked that question. It’s not part of Lahsa’s intake process.”

WHAT!? No wonder the shelter can’t find any sex offenders, they don’t even ask simple questions. We know now that the only ‘screening’ of clients is a late night search of the Megan’s Law website. (Basically a ‘google’ search.) Every word about careful screening made by Ms. Gatlin when she was seeking approval for the shelter was just a deceptive ruse.

It’s clear, by not even asking a simple question, URM/Eiamgo does not care who is at the shelter or what they do outside the shelter.

But HERE is the biggest revelation:

Eimago has contracts with the Sheriff’s Dept. and the State of California Dept of Corrections to “serve people who cycle through the criminal justice system”

In simple words.... The URM/Eimago is PAID to shelter criminals!

to quote Ms Gatlin, “We get a lot of people coming straight out of prison”

There’s the meat of the issue! The shelter program is about housing criminals for money. The line about helping families and children in need is just a bunch of marketing B.S. to guilt people and cities into supporting the program. This explains the shelter’s pathetic results in assisted families (15) vs. the number of clients at the shelter. (110 on average per night)
