PLEASE READ – VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This note is to inform you that the members of the City Council of Burbank approved the use of the National Guard Armory next to Pacific Park as a winter HOMELESS SHELTER for alcohol and drugs addicts. The homeless are from all over the Los Angeles area. (less than 12% are from Burbank)
This was a program that the city of Glendale provided, but last year Glendale closed their shelter for renovations and Burbank helped them until they completed their renovations. Now the city of Glendale, with their newly revitalized downtown, does not want to continue with their program and now wants Burbank to take over.
Last month the City Council had a meeting regarding this situation. UNFORTUNATELY not enough neighbors attended this meeting because not every one received the notice informing of the date and time of the meeting. The city council voted 4/1 in favor of the homeless shelter. Only Dr. David Gordon voted opposed and requested another location.
As you know, if we all accept a homeless shelter close to our residences, it will reduce the value of our homes, we wont feel secure any more and we will need to be extra careful with our children walking to the schools and in the park. Over time, the homeless will come to depend on the shelter and will loiter around the area. Drug dealers will come into the area to service their ‘customers’ and crime will increase as the addicts commit thefts and burglaries to pay for their habit. It is important to stop this development as soon as possible, to ‘nip it in the bud’ as they say.
We can try to stop them this year, we have prepared a letter that is ready to be delivered to the Mayor’s office but we are collecting as many signatures as possible. Please come to read and sign the letter to show the Mayor we all care for our community.
